I seem to be doing this. Just posted some more poetry from my archives. I’ll probably write more later. Maybe.
It’s snowing here in Atlanta. Well, it was snowing this morning. It is supposed to clear up, get a little warmer, then the temps tumble while the rain/freezing rain returns tonight. Tomorrow will be interesting.
Update on the fire: moved into rental house last week. Just got phone but no DSL (sad face) today and Dish satellite yesterday. Running internet through my cell phone. Luckily, it’s not terrible in the data department. Did this while in New York last year and it only up’d my usage to about 1 to 1.5 GB in a week. I expect this week to do about the same. Until we get internet at the house, this is what we’ll have to do.
Now that the internet is back, off to do some more work.
Oh, just realized that it has been exactly one month since the fire. Feels longer…
Talk about a long hiatus between posts. 🙂 And with not so wonderful news either.
Some may or may not know, but my family suffered a fire in our home last Saturday night. We are all ok and everyone got out safely, including the pets. It’s a three-story house and the top floor, where the kids rooms are, are basically a shell. They basically lost everything. It is not a total loss but there is a lot of fire, water, ash and smoke damage through-out the rest of the house. We are insured and that process has started with several adjusters evaluating and sending people over to start the cleanup and repairs. As you all most likely realize this is going to be a long process.
We have our immediate needs met, but there are fun things that we would like the children to have. They are in a small place with lots of people and no computers. So for Galen (8 year old boy) Lego sets would be good. Piper (14 year old girl) crochet needles and yarn. And for Rheanna (16 year old girl) drawing paper, pencils, colored pencils, and erasers. Or anything else that you think would be good distraction for any kid, or family distraction is good too, i.e. board games.
Food is always a welcome things. Since we are staying with family, there are a lot of us in a little itty bitty tiny living space. It’s almost like a lamp. 🙂 So, grocery store gift cards and food donations would be appreciated.
If anyone would like to make a monetary donation, or are outside of the Atlanta area, there is an account set up at Wells Fargo for the family. All you need to do is go to a Wells Fargo branch and the donation can go into the “Christa Segers Serendipity Fire Recovery Fund”.
Thank you for the help we have already received. We appreciate everyone that have donated so far, especially people we don’t know. Thank you. Thank you.
I mentored for 5 years, and will try to get back into it again. They always need Readers. It’s fun, fulfilling, and you get to read. 😉
Everybody Wins! Atlanta.
That is all…
Just realized how long it has been since I posted something. Oops. Thank you for everyone who liked my poetry. Makes me feel good. Now, if I can only get some parts of WordPress to work like it want it to, I’ll be fine. 🙂
I will post another poem from my back collection sometime today or tomorrow. I’ve considered doing something for #NaNoWriMo but not sure how poetry and novels work. I’ve considered writing a novel, and I might, but I don’t know what I would write. Several of my friends are posting that they plan to write. It will be cool to see what they come up with.
Work is good (I work full time) and I’m considering starting a blog for legal technology. We’ll see. Once I’m back in the swing of things, I might do that.
In case you have no idea what NaNoWriMo is, it’s a month that authors sign up at nanowrimo.org, dedicate that month to write at least 50k words, and get prizes. And a T-Shirt. 🙂 T-Shirts are important: Been there, done that….you get the picture.
Had to steal my iPad back from my daughter. She took off with it (I gave her my permission) Sunday night since I wasn’t using it. Then I wanted to use it yesterday. *sigh* Now I have to charge it and it’s doing odd things when it’s low on power. Very strange. I did just update it Sunday too. I might need to reboot it again.
I haven’t posted in a while. Sorry about that. I plan to rectify that. But, work and prep work for volunteering at DragonCon this upcoming weekend has taken up most of my time in the last couple of months.
DragonCon you say? What is it? Never heard of it? Do you live under a rock? Well…may be not if you live outside of the states. It is one of the largest Science Fiction and Fantasy convention held here in Atlanta, GA, USA this Friday through Monday (8/30 – 9/2). And I volunteer for the Space Fan Track. Do you like Space? Come find us on Facebook under Dragon Con Space Track and Twitter @dconspacetrack. The twitter feed for Dragon Con itself is @DragonCon. And if you are going and have kids, there is a NASA workshop where the kids can make something at 9:30am on Monday morning in the Space Track room (Hilton 309/310). Come, join us!
I’m packed, mostly. I’m sure I’m forgetting something. Hopefully, I’ll get it together before I leave tomorrow. I may blog about stuff and/or post pictures (as soon as I figure out how this app thing works). I will definitively post some poetry. 🙂
Have a glorious weekend!
Windows down, driving along;
The wind whips through my hair.
Calm thoughts, happiness abounds;
I drive looking at everything with my stare.
I smile as I go home towards love
As darkness slowly descends;
Thoughts abound, plans form,
And wonders alight in the end.
Upon my head
Near my bed.
Listen to the rain
As it falls from the sky
And then it is goodbye
Shows it’s sadness
But in the end
There is gladness
For the rain
Brings beauty, love and peace
Allows growth and nectar
And sleep in ease
